To keep it real LA Reid really ruined Def Jam alot of people who got signed to the label before Russell left became legend then Jay-Z came in and brought some great artist to the labe too but as soon as he left the label went down hill he kept in signing people who he thought that can bring hit aka the bank but they didn't and they didn't last long ask Pink he kept on trying to make her a product instead of a great artist she was a punk rock star but he try to keep her a R&B singer LA made Def Jam a coorprete label when it was the biggest independent label ever with great artist and thats why alot of these artist leaving them stupid labels to do their own thing cause these other label disrespected them forgeting how much they brought to the label so let Lupe and Nas just do their thing intell their contract is up cause if they don't they going to lose alot and more.

hip hop and rap ran their course. Nas was right hip hop is dead. I am a fan of both rap and hip hop but too much music is being put out too fast to try and milk this sinking ship for all its worth before it goes under and the only victims are fans of good music. Theres still good music being put out but 80% of it comes and goes unnoticed by the masses because they didn't hear it on the radio

Real mc's are respected and part a of a artistic genre but its more than obvious its a genre that just doesnt seem marketable to the Majors. Period

Ben,

Ive got a chance to talk to folks and study the music industry for awhile. Ive read interviews on pac, pimp c, jay z. It seems like the industry is a very very dark place and the genernal public does not see that. It seems the higher up within the industry have satanic agendas...people on the net nowadays just throwing out the word illuminati not knowing the true meaning of the hidden hand that controls the music industry. The symbolism is blatent in music videos and songs today but it goes unnoticed. A lot of these artists today are puppets...ie rihanna, lady gaga, etc. I know youve been in the industry...can u touch base on this...??

Same thing is happening with Lupe right now.

The ONLY reason majors are still around is because every car still has an FM radio and Best Buy/Wal Mart still carry CD's. Artists are pouring their souls out on mixtapes for free to truly express themselves without needing the approval from majors. It sucks that they're not getting paid for making such great music.

You do have a point when a major gives you an advance you're pretty much at their mercy. I think that's what happened to Wale. He had skits making fun of A&R's and label demands. But when his album came out his very first single had Lady Gaga on it. Pretty Girls was a dope song but the label didn't put it out without adding a Gucci Mane verse.
